The 2022 Commonwealth Games have officially started, and so far, the competition has been exciting and entertaining. The host city of Birmingham has been ready as ever to provide a complete competitive environment for athletes and players from the world, and above all is a big calendar of events that Indians will hope to conquer.

Medal Tally: 3rd Gold for India

With Achinta Sheuli’s victory in the 73 kg Weightlifting on Sunday, India clinched its third gold medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The Indian contingent has taken its medal tally to six with three golds, two silvers, and a bronze.

India hopes for more!

Cricket: After losing the 1st game against Australia. India’s women’s cricket team bounced back in the tournament with a sensational win over arch-rivals Pakistan. After winning the toss Pakistan Women’s Cricket team decided to bat first. The decision to bat first turned out to be bad for them as they ended up scoring 98 runs in 18 overs. In reply, Smriti Mandhana smashed an unbeaten half-century and led India to victory.

Weightlifting: Anchita Sheuli and Jeremy Lalrinnunga won gold for India in the 73kg and 67 kg weightlifting categories respectively.

Boxing: India’s Nikhat knocked out Helena Ismael Bagao of Mozambique and qualifies for the 50kg quarterfinals in women’s boxing. Zareen will next face reigning Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Troy Garton of New Zealand in the quarterfinals, where a win will secure her podium finish.

Table Tennis: Indian men’s table tennis team goes into the semis after defeating Bangladesh.

Lawn bowls: The pair of Dinesh Kumar and Sunil Bahadur reached the quarterfinals after a win over England.

Hockey: India men’s hockey team won their 1st match in Group B with a dominating victory of 11-0 against Ghana.

Squash:  India’s Joshana Chinnappa has qualified for the women’s singles quarterfinals.

Moreover, India will also hope for Medals in other categories too. The team of 2022 has a lot to deliver upon the preparations and quality of play they have.
